From the very first time I tried it I was able to create a coal capable of lighting off a tinder bundle. My sole problem is step 3 of the instructions for winding on replacement string. I understand about running the string through the 2nd hole and then continue winding, but I don't understand how to secure the string after that to prevent it from unwinding back to the hole. Other than that well made and authentic. Proud to use it at events.

It took me a few tries before I understood that I needed to keep the string gasket greased after every couple of attempts. Once I figured this out it worked like a charm. Got me a neat little fire going. I recommend some type of pick to get the ember out but beyond that I am very happy. I have a small crack in the lower half. I hope this is a normal part of the material and that it will not grow and ruin the piston. I do wish that there was a better group of photos or at least a video offered on the web-site on how to put a new string gasket on. The photos are ok but I am not sure I could replace the gasket with only the instructions that came with the piston. So if you could make a step by step video on your web-site that would be awesome.
